Interview with Hayley Elvins

Please share a little about what you do.

I run a Security Risk Management Consultancy specialising in protective security and counter-espionage. No two days are ever quite the same. My time is split between advising clients, planning operations, business development, and leading a team of security professionals.

When live operations are underway, organisation and communication are critical. I need to maintain a clear understanding of what is happening at all times, ensure clients are kept informed, and coordinate multiple moving parts simultaneously. In my profession, attention to detail matters; failing to meet a commitment can have significant operational, contractual and reputational consequences.

Alongside running my business, I hold a demanding Non-Executive Director role, manage a busy family life, and care for a variety of animals, including a horse. Life is full, but I enjoy the challenge and variety that comes with it.

What brought you to STAIT for Women?

Maintaining my physical and mental performance is incredibly important to me. I train hard, not just for fitness, but because it helps me stay focused, resilient and capable of performing at my best in all aspects of life.

Now in my mid-forties, I focus on strength rather than size and am increasingly conscious of the importance of investing in my long-term health and ensuring I have the energy and concentration required to meet the demands of my career and personal life. After hearing several positive recommendations about STAIT, I decided to give it a try. My primary goal was to improve my energy levels, focus and overall wellbeing.

STAIT for Women speaks to women who are holding a great deal – physically, cognitively and emotionally – and are increasingly aware that how they feel is shaped by more than just willpower.

How do you remain physically capable, mentally sharp and ready for what life throws at you?

Consistency is key. I run or train CrossFit six days a week and make it a non-negotiable part of my routine because it keeps me physically strong and mentally balanced. Like everyone, I have strengths and weaknesses, and there is always room for improvement, but I rarely leave a training session without feeling better prepared for the day ahead.

I also pay close attention to recovery. I listen to my body, adjust my training when necessary, prioritise hydration and aim to consume around 135 grams of protein per day. I limit alcohol wherever possible and supplement with collagen and STAIT capsules as part of my wider approach to health and performance.

There are plenty of products on the market. What makes STAIT genuinely different in your view?

I have tried a number of supplements over the years, and STAIT is one of the few where I genuinely noticed a difference. The biggest improvements for me were in my energy levels, metabolism and overall recovery.

I find it easier to maintain a healthy body composition and build muscle than I did previously. Equally important, the products feel clean. I am not a fan of the excessive sweeteners, fillers and unnecessary ingredients that are common in many supplements and protein powders.

One unexpected benefit was that after around three months of using STAIT, my hairdresser commented on the noticeable improvement in the condition of my hair, which was a pleasant surprise.

STAIT for Women’s key phrase is “Elevate Your Baseline” – encouraging women to remain strong. What does that phrase mean to you personally?

I really connect with that message. Everyone experiences difficult days, setbacks and periods of low motivation. However, when you know what your body is capable of and have confidence in your physical and mental resilience, it changes how you approach challenges.

Strength builds confidence, and confidence influences how you carry yourself. I would hope that when people work with me, they see someone who is disciplined, dependable and capable of delivering under pressure. Maintaining a strong baseline helps me achieve that.

For women reading this who feel they have a lot on their plate and may be neglecting their health, what would you want them to hear from you?

Looking after yourself is not selfish; it is foundational. When your health is neglected, everything else becomes harder. When you prioritise your wellbeing, you are better equipped to support your family, succeed professionally and enjoy life.

For parents, it is also an opportunity to lead by example. Demonstrating healthy habits, balance and self-care teaches children valuable lessons that they will carry into adulthood.

Any final thoughts you’d like to share with women who lead demanding lives?

Give yourself permission to enjoy life as well as work hard. Whether that is spending time with friends, pursuing a hobby, getting outdoors, or simply enjoying a piece of cake, balance matters.

Life is busy and there will always be competing demands, but making time for the things that bring you joy is just as important as achieving your goals. The key is finding a sustainable balance that works for you.
